The central element, an artistically and historical highlight of the Castillo Hotel Son Vida is a 14-metre high dome that represents the work of art “Ars Brevis”. The imposing masterpiece was designed by the renowned German artist Nils Burwitz.
The colours and light projection of the glass changes with the situation of the sun: From dark red and cobalt blue in the morning to the tender pastel colours of the afternoon until the golden glow in the evening. Nils Burwitz, who has been living in Mallorca for 30 years, obtained his inspiration from works of the “Ars Brewis”: these are scriptures in relation to the “core of knowledge” by Mallorcan philosopher Ramon Llull, a precursor of modern logic.
The viewers can simply benefit from the colourful spectacle or enjoy a philosophical journey, as each motive does not only project an aesthetical as well as stylish form and light projection but hold a deep meaning for itself and for its assemblage. Ask for a brochure of the Castillo’s dome at reception and discover Llull’s philosophy and Burwitz’s art.
Additional important works from Nils Burwitz can be found in churches and monasteries around Mallorca as well as in Germany, England and museums all over the world. The author Nadine Gordimer, holder of the Nobel prize in literature 1991, praised Nils Burwitz by saying: “Beauty and truth penetrate his inspiring talent”.
